Before you travel
A few practical notes to help you get set up before you land in Cairo.
Visa requirements
The standard single-entry tourist visa is available on arrival at Cairo International Airport — USD 30 if paid in cash, or USD 36 through the newly launched digital QR-code system.
Not sure if visa on arrival applies to you? Check the official Egyptian government portal to confirm your nationality's eligibility.
Tip: if you bring a €/$50 or €/$100 bill, you'll often be offered the change in Egyptian pounds — an easy way to get local currency at a good rate. Useful for tips along your stay!
Stay connected
We highly recommend an eSIM or a data roaming package with your provider to stay connected during your time in Egypt.
Tip: Egyptian carriers only offer physical SIMs to tourists, so it's best to install your eSIM before you arrive — make sure your phone supports eSIM and it's activated ahead of time.
Where to stay
A couple of areas we love, and hotels near the celebration.
Leafy island district, walkable and full of cafés — central and easy to get around. We'll also have a shuttle to the wedding departing from here on the day. We recommend Zamalek for ease of transport on the day of.
A green, relaxed quarter of tree-lined streets and easy-going cafés, calmer and away from the centre.

Getting around
Both the welcome party and the wedding sit on the western side of Cairo, so allow extra time for traffic if you're coming from the city centre.
Recommended ride options
Widely available across Cairo — usually the simplest way to get around. We recommend ordering Uber Comfort for a more pleasant ride.
